SP1 Install Failure 8024200D

Anyone else get this one yet? Any resolution?

I've tried all the recommendations: other updates all installed, anti-virus disabled, system update readiness tool, etc, etc, etc.

No luck at all installing this service pack. It just fails every time.

WTF Microsoft?

Seeing lots of people having issues. I'd just stay put without it for the time being and give this a few days to get ironed out.

Hi, joec1101. Welcome to Seven Forums!

Let's see if we can help you with the installation of SP1. Let's start with a cleanup using the Cleaning Manager Utility:

START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | right-click on cmd.exe above under programs | select Run as Administrator | type cleanmgr tuneup in the cmd/DOS screen. Check the following boxes:
- Temp Setup Files
- Downloaded Program Files
- Temp Internet Files
- Recycle Bin
- System error memory dump files (NOT the next line - minidump files)
- Temp Files
- Temp Windows Installation Files

To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

Do the following to run the System File Checker tool:
  • Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
  • Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
  • If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
  • At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow (note the space before the backslash)
  • When the scan is complete, shutdown/restart the computer.

Following that, please run the Microsoft Fix it 50202 to reset the Windows Update Components in both DEFAULT and AGGRESSIVE modes. How do I reset Windows Update components?

Shutdown/restart the computer and check Windows Update. First install any Important updates that may be offered and restart the computer. If you have any hidden updates, restore them and install. Then check again for Service Pack 1.

Note: if you are using a laptop, be sure it is connected to an electric outlet.

Thanks for the reply, but, unfortunately this didn't help. I followed these directions to the tee and still get the same error message

Hopefully there will be something from MS in the days to come to fix these sp1 install issues.

hmmmm....

hmmmm....

tried the above but SP1 still refuses to play ball.

I ran the 'Fix it' , it removed the update history but the only update that appeared after the reboot was SP1

P.S.

We had a power cut whle the laptop was going thro' the 'DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER...' phase if this helps, I was worried that we would have issues after that and seem to have been proved correct

Hi, asfos.

Are you getting an error message? Have you tried the System Update Readiness tool: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2?

Corrine,

Thank you for your reply.

I've just run that MS tool but the SP is still failing to install with error code 8024200D

I'm sure it had something to do with that power failure

asfos

P.S.

I tried it again and it took forever but still failed.

It's my sons ACER laptop that's giving us the issues, is it possible the old, original update is still stuck and needs to be 'flushed out' somehow?

** bump **

Anyone ever figure this out?

Still doesn't work for me, even after installing the latest few MS updates.

This is really annoying - I have never had another MS update/SP fail like this on any OS.
