SP1 and WGA
By the way, I hope the optional KB971033 isn't included in this Service Pack.
Does anybody know otherwise?

Hi,
I'm not 100% certain but some reports indicate that it might be as some users have reported their Genuine copy of Windows 7 has become not Genuine after installation of Service Pack 1
If this happens goto Windows Validate site and allow the ActiveX control to install, this will then check your installation and mark it as Genuine
NoteWe do not and will not support pirated software. If you believe your copy is genuine just follow the step above
Hope this helps :)

No I don't think that thread was very clear at all. There was a lot of debate over there. I was hoping somebody might know of an official link from Microsoft that would clarify the situation.
You don't have to have pirated software in order to object to WGA. I don't need to keep pinging their authentication servers every 30-90 days (or whatever) in order to prove myself. I already know I'm legit.
They're just gonna have to trust me, that's all.
But that's besides the point of my original question.
I can tell you that I clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 integrated ISO from Technet, and it wasn't included in it.
I got the WAT update offered to me days later in WU, and it was auto unchecked. That's clear enough to me.
Besides, even if you're legit and just don't like the update there's several things you could do with it.
1. Don't install it and just hide it. After all, it's not auto checked by them in the first place.
2. Install it, and in Task Scheduler under (Windows Activation Technologies) either -
A. Change the 2 tasks date to however long a delay you want. For example -every 180 days instead of 90 days.
B. Disable the tasks, hence stopping it from running at all, but still installed.
Problem solved.
In all fairness though, you don't "own" your copy of Windows, you have a license that Microsoft provides you to use their software. They really can see fit to require it. There are other OS's out there which you can use, if you really object to it.
