Windows update keeps installing same file

As noted in the title windows update has installed the file kb2393802 a total of 45 times on my computer. Therefore I have reset it to check for updates but only install what I choose. Does anyone have any ideas why? Thanks

Hi REVMIKE and welcome to the forum. Not sure why you keep getting nagged about this one update. It appears to be just a standard security update.
The next time it shows up as an update to install, just click to hide this update in the future and not install automatically. This way you can turn back on your standard update settings. Hope this helps

When you look at the install history, does it show that it was successfully installed. I think if me, rather than ignore it, I would uninstall it from my machine, reboot, and run WU again.

Good point Digerati. When the OP said "installed the file kb2393802 a total of 45 times" I guessed he meant "successfully". However, if the update is not being successfully installed, it would be hard to "I would uninstall it from my machine, reboot, and run WU again". If it just is not being installed after 45 attempts, then further investigating would be required.

Try a direct manual download of the update from here.
Download details: Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2393802)

Many times this solves the problem.

However, if the update is not being successfully installed, it would be hard to "I would uninstall it from my machine, reboot
Not necessarily. It can still be installed, but failed to initialize or had some other problem and did not enable. This may be seen as a failure, but still listed just the same. So it would be interesting to see how listed.

In any case, I would go into Control Panel > Programs and Features, and click on "View installed updates", find KB2393802 and uninstall it, if listed there. Reboot to ensure the Registry is reset and have WU check for updates again and see what happens. Hopefully, if it reports it is still needed, it will install properly and completely this time, and not keep telling you to install it.

Or, you might try Microsoft's Windows Update troubleshooter.

In any event, it is a security update, and for that reason, it needs to be installed.

    Have you scanned for malware?

Same problem here. With this Update and another. See pictures in other thread.

Even more weird the second picture.
