    win7 sp1 switch my boot drive...


    Hello,

    I want to know, i what happened to me today, if it's happened to someone else too.

    Yesterday, i installed win7 service pack 1, the installation goes well and have a message that sp1 was succesfully install.

    Today, i turn on my computer, and i realize that my desktop was my old desktop, old shorcut... After searching a lot, i realize that my hard drive letter are change.
    I have 2 harddrive,(C and F)
    So after the update(sp1) my hardrive letter C became letter F and F became C ... Strange no?

    SO what i did is: Go in the BIOS, change my boot Drive, and all was correct.

    Do you know why that happen.

    If I understand you correctly, windows changed the Disk numbering.

    If that is what you mean - don't worry, it is a known windows glitch.

    OK. How does one fix the known glitch?

    Secondary question (retorical I suppose) why doesn't MS fix these things with their monthly downloads? Why should there be "known glitch" present in production software?

    Because they can't. It has been around a long while.

    The disk-assignment numbers may not necessarily match the corresponding SATA or RAID channel numbers. There is no assurance of a consistent relationship between PnP enumeration and the order of the hard disks that are detected during setup. Devices are presented in the order in which they are enumerated. Therefore, the disk-assignment numbers may change between startups.




    You will need to change the bios boot order for your HD's or set the o/s you want as default in boot menu, or mark the drive you don't to boot thru inactive.

    We can't see what you have done - if you post a scrrenshot of disk management , that would help.
