    Selective removal of SP1?

I finally got around to installing SP1 on my machine - and immediately discovered that it conflicted with vmware, which I use to access my work computer.

I assume that an SP is just basically a collection of all previous Windows updates, rolled into one, and I know of two updates from February that prevent unpatched off-the-shelf vmware from working (http://www.crn.com/news/data-center/...mware-view.htm).

Is there a way to have SP1 installed, then selectively roll it back so that the offending updates are removed?

    Hello!

You are not going to like to hear this, but there is no known way.

A Service Pack is a bit more than a bundle of KBs. It is a consolidated bundle of KBs.

The file system (to a reasonable approximation) changes as though it were separate KBs. The registry, however (to a reasonable approximation) changes as though it were one KB.

You cannot remove updates from the SP1 installer, and nor can you from an installed SP1 - even through some risky manual method.

For my own purposes, I solved my problem (the vmware compatibility issue was the big-picture issue). Vmware and "making nice" with Windows 7? explains how - running vmware in compatibility mode.
