Evaluation My PC supplier used their copy of Windows 7 to set my pc up and forgot to use the licenced copy that I had paid for.
I have a message saying that I should back up as windows 7 will stop in 4 days time.
Is it just a case that windows 7 will ask me for my licence code, I input this and business as usual or will it completely stop and I loose my programme partition by having to re install windows 7.

Hello.
If the Windows 7 activation key you have is for the same version the supplier installed to the PC then you should have no issues getting it activated online by simply adding the key you have, have a look at these tutorials at the links below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed. Thanks for responses, appreciated.
unfortunately it is a different version, does this mean my copy is redundant and I need the suppliers keycode? Is there any way of changing them without major loss to my programmes file?

cR It sounds to me that your vendor put the wrong version of windows 7 on your machine and it looks like your copy is illegal. If you have a legitimate license for windows 7 then they should have put the correct version on your computer.
I would go back to them and see what they have to say.
Many vendors who repair/replace operating systems will install the correct version for your system and license.
your copy is not redundant, it is illegal if you don't own a license.
I would make sure that you have a good backup of your data as it looks like you will have to re-install windows and could lose installed programs.
What version of windows 7 do you own?
what version did they put on your computer?
questions...

Thanks Rich,
No, I can confirm that they and the disc I have are genuine, it was just a mistake that they have made but it leaves me with the problem!
I did google the problem and one link came up with an issue of SP1 in a beta form and that when SP1 final was downloaded it creates the genuine 7 copy to an evaluation copy, not sure wheter this is so.
It sounds to me that I need to get their code and install it so that the status quo is maintained.

OK, the disc that was supplied is a windows home premium. The programme that is installed is a windows home premium. After checking this i noticed an option of changing product key, would this work?

If they are the same (Home Premium) it should work.
