Windows 7 updates takes forever

I have windows 7 pro 32 bit (I don't have SP1 yet) My updates are set to automatic. My computer, on restart, was busy installing updates. The updates have taken more than 12 hours and is still not complete. How can I stop the update from trying to install if I can't fix the problem.

Yeah, 12 hours isn't normal. I'm guessing it's on the shutdown style screen saying "installing updates x of x"? From my experience, I'm afraid the best method to stop it is either hold down the power button for eight seconds or yank the power cable out. I would also recommend you switch you updates to 'download but let me choose what to install'

Yeah as the above poster said something probably hanging there...Also take a look at what is about to be downloaded, only takes a few seconds as biggles said!

I run win7 ultimate 64bit and just installed sp1, it took 20 minutes including downloading, installing and restart...No drama...Now just have to see what it affects...
