SP1 dont get installed - System update Rediness Error

I am having win7 ultimate on a fresh format HDD. now i have downloaded SP1 directly from the microsoft website: Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Now, i cant even install sp1 i am getting the error:

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The above link asks to download some file tht is 300MB in size...

Someone suggested to install KB976902, but even after installing this, i am getting same error.

    Any solutions?

If it is prompting you to download the Readiness tool it probably needs it.

hmm... its weird tht one needs to install additional' stuff like "system rediness tool" before installing a service pack. I have never faced such issue on XP & Vista.

BTW, i just want to install 1-2updates tht might be absolute necessary to install SP1.....So any clue what those can be?

Have you activated your Windows 7 with Microsoft?
