Error Code 800B0100, what is all about?

    Hello,

I am receiving this error code 800B0100 (TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE) (No signature was present in the subject) when trying to update from WinUpdates... I can not install IE9, Win7SP1 (KB976932) and KB2487426 from the site.

I have try a lot of things from many google searchs about this and none have solved my issue.

Attached are the checkSUR and the checkSUR.persist files that the System Update Readiness Tool create (hotfix KB947821) but I do not know what to do with those.

I have also run in the command prompt the sfc/scannow and no errors are shown.

The first update that show that error was KB2487426 and appear as failed in the update history record, but after that one the SP1 and IE9 show the very same error.

I have try as well changing the name of Software Distribution folder (turning off and on the "winupdate" service and the "Background Intelligent Transfer" service) in the windows folder and nothing.

I have turn off the windows firewalls as well as my AV soft (Trend Micro) and still no change.

    I have also try this:

    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
    2. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
    3. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
    4. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s, and then press ENTER.
    5. At the command prompt, type regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s, and then press ENTER
    and nothing...

I also run the Windows Update troubleshooter and nothing, attached is the report as well in pdf and of course nothing happend and nothing was repaired...

And finally the reset Windows Update componets page says the it does not apply to win 7 (How do I reset Windows Update components?) so I have not run what in this page is showed but I am tempted to do so )))

I do not know what should I do now. I am not a programmer but either a dummy on computers and it looks like this error has some deep level features that I can not reach and I will be very please if someone has a solution for this.

    Regards,

    System: Win 7 Pro 64bit on i7 3.33ghz with 12GB ram.

    Thanks in advance,

    JC

Hello juanpch, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

I shall be with you in about 10 minutes. What your computer needs is a special fix to repair all of those corrupt files.

I am not in the best position to do it right now. Give me about 10 minutes, and I should have it ready for you. Please hang in there!

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello again!

    Done!

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
    @juanpch: Ignore the above :)

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

    Thanks a lot!

    Richard

You did very well indeed. Very well.

You tried a lot by yourself, and you did an absolutely fantastic job, allowing me to home in straight onto the fix. So in the long run, you have saved yourself time, but most importantly, I would just like to congratulate you on what you did try by yourself, and for putting effort into your first post. Not many people do, and it makes such a difference to us. And actually, your knowledge is very good indeed, very good.

And yes, this forum is one of the very best! Do remember to save the link, so that you can always ask questions whenever you need to, have a look at the Tutorials section when this is over: Tutorials - Windows 7 Forums (I guarantee that you can learn many things there. I certainly have learned much from that section)

Really well done! Those instructions are not easy to follow, and you did them perfectly first time! That log looks excellent!

With any luck, Windows Update will now work perfectly. If it still has errors, all it needs is a kick start. More on that later if necessary.

    Really well done again!

Richard, that's why you are a guru!

Really really thx for this help, an amazing job!

Clean update, none to add... everything goes perfect, and even the one that was most annoying (KB2487426) just dissapear after SP1 was installed.

    IE9 - perfect!

    SP1 - perfect!

and the ones that arise after those installations - perfect!

Attached is a printscreen of the updates review. I decided to go 1 by 1 and everything goes just perfect. Meanwhile installlation I was thinking how you guys can tweek the Bill Gates wrong way of thinking )))

I will keep wondering what do you read in those logs (that you can found them "excellent" ))), how do you know which files I was nedding and from where you take them??? but I guess that is why you are a guru and I am not.

For the moment I will go to the tutorials in the forum to learn some!

I really thank you for your quick and precise help. Sevenforums is already in a button in IE.

Amazing help, and lets see if Microsoft learn something for win8. (I am not complaining about win7 it is a very good OS but still they have to fine tune it a lot, I guess from my ignorance)

I owe you a pint and hopefully I will not come back with troubles soon.

    cheers,

    JC
