The update we're talking about is Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) aka kb971033. When installed, this update touches base with MS servers every 90 days to download new anti-piracy signatures (much like antivirus). However, as of now, WAT is NOT mandatory. If you do not install WAT or uninstall it or hide it so that it doesnt show up again, the max damage will be that stuff that needs MS validation will not be available to you- things like the free antivirus MSE and other MS goodies that require validation. Other than that your computer will work just fine.

As I see it, if you don't use it with an internet connection you won't have a problem.

You've activated the software and if the computer can't talk to the validation server it can't possibly fail the validation process.

Hi Geek guy , I was reading your thread . I am also having a comparatively slow internet connection, so it is sometimes difficult to download all the needed goodies

Validation is secondary, but activation is primary . Make it sure that you are activated, otherwise it would be hard to work on the machine .
