    5/11/2011 Update broke my computer

Was shutting my computer off before bed last night when it told me to get updates. So I got them. Shut it off and went to bed.

Today I can't do anything. Windows boots fine and everything, I noticed the first loading screen took quite a bit longer then usual. It boots but I can't load anything. Chrome, Firefox, Skype, everything just gets stuck on the circle loading mouse thing. I can load Windows programs like Windows Media Player or Windows Update but I can't load anything else. I work from home and I don't know what to do. I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Set back to the restore point from before the updates were installed. Next time the updates arrive, hide them until we know more about this set. You are not the only one that had trouble with this set.

    me too

I have a similar story. my problem seems to be related to windowblinds. my gui is all screwed up. most windows don't open at all. the processes show up for a second and then drop. control panel shows up as only the top bar. when trying to disable windowblinds an error pops up but i can only see "machine. would you like to try to fix this now?" click yes, nothing.

I ran system restore to no avail.

    what. the. hell.

list of things working and not:

    Windows explorer no
    task manager yes
    firefox/chrome yes
windowblinds opens but can't really do anything(processes can't be ended)
    system tray(popout) no
    rainmeter yes (wtf, right?)

System restore or reimage to before you installed the skins program as it may be unstable or buggy. See if it clears things up.

Did you think this was related to the 5/11 updates? If so, first try restoring to before the Updates.
