Did you install it yourself? If so, did it ask for a Product Key?
If you did not put one in at the time of installation, you will need to before the 9 days is up to activate Windows. It should be on the disc, or from the email when purchased digitally.
If it never asked for a key during installation, theres a good possibility its a pirated/cracked version.
Or rather, an attempt at it that has failed.
The activation prompt means MS knows it not a legit copy, and needs you to verify or it will be de-activated.
If you have a legitimate key however, these things can occasionally happen.
You can simply try to activate it now & if it fails, simply contact MS and they will get you all squared away.
If your friend gave you the copy, and its legit, he should have gave you a key as well, or may have it with him.
