Preactivated windows? You mean one of those disks you can download or buy on the street for free or cheap?

The only preactived versions of windows are those that come installed on oem computers. Your system specs show you have a personally built computer, so oem windows is ruled out. So what are talking about here?

Maybe he skipped inserting the product key and is one of those 30 day trial run things.

Did you install it yourself? If so, did it ask for a Product Key?

If you did not put one in at the time of installation, you will need to before the 9 days is up to activate Windows. It should be on the disc, or from the email when purchased digitally.

If it never asked for a key during installation, theres a good possibility its a pirated/cracked version.

Or rather, an attempt at it that has failed.
The activation prompt means MS knows it not a legit copy, and needs you to verify or it will be de-activated.

If you have a legitimate key however, these things can occasionally happen.
You can simply try to activate it now & if it fails, simply contact MS and they will get you all squared away.

If your friend gave you the copy, and its legit, he should have gave you a key as well, or may have it with him.

oh im sorry for using the term "preactivated".. im still new with all this installer stuffs.. i thought that it was the term used for OSes bought online from ms.. i made a quick research about it and it turns out i was completely wrong..

so does this mean that i need to get the activation key from my friend or do i need to buy a new key?

When you brought the Download from MS they would have sent you an email containing your Bill and the cost also it will contain the Product key

Have you checked your inbox?

In addition to the email they send, you can also log into your Microsoft Store Account.

Once there, you will be able to see all the products you own, thier Product keys, as well as redownload them if you ever need to.
