    Hello Richard!

Sorry for the long time between my posts, I work shifts and get home quite late, and I had to go shopping today.

Anyway enough about me, I have re-run the System Update Readiness Tool and have created a LOGS folder on my desktop and copyed all the files you have requested, then zipped it.

I have enclosed it with this post.

I hope this gives you all the infomation you need to find a fix for the problem.

    Many Thanks!

    Andy.
I am so sorry! I completely missed the fact that you had uploaded your logs. I was waiting for you to...and you already had. My fault.

    From your CBS.log:

    Code:
    2011-06-11 01:42:53, Error CBS SPI: (SPIRegQueryStringValue:700)Failed to query registry value: MiscString2 er=0x2

2011-06-11 01:43:00, Error CBS Failed to verify if catalog file \\?\C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\18e2c83e42cc8f0cc17b5dbfaf982690\update.cat is valid. [HRESULT = 0x800b0100 - TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE]

I think that we are making progress. No errors are remaining in your CheckSUR.log. No new errors have appeared.

Hopefully, all we have to do is give Windows Update a bit of a kick start.

Please run the Fix-It here: How do I reset Windows Update components?

It is completely compatible with 7. The message at the top is out of date.

Please DO run it in Aggressive Mode.

Doing it manually is not worth it. Just run the Fix-It once, and see if it can work some magic.

Restart your computer, and re-try Windows Update.

If you still have a 0x800B0100 return code, please download SP1 from here: Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

    You want the windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe package.

    Give that a try.

If it STILL will not install, then please create a new folder on your Desktop called LOGS2.

Copy into that new folder the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder, and the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log file.

Right click on your new LOGS2 folder > Send to > Compressed (Zipped) folder, and upload it here for me.

Thanks a lot, and the very best of luck!

    Richard

Ah. I get where you are coming from now. Thank you so much for sharing, and really sorry for stepping on your toes.

Oh no. We have just gone on a wild goose chase, both of us, and it is all my fault!

I did standard lookup on 0x8007000d. Standard lookup works on almost all error codes:

    Code:
    C:\Users\Richard>err 0x8007000d
    # for hex 0x8007000d / decimal -2147024883 :
      STIERR_INVALID_HW_TYPE stierr.h
      STIERR_INVALID_HW_TYPE stierr.h
    # 2 matches found for "0x8007000d"

    C:\Users\Richard>
I have just gone through the logs:

    Dang! winerror.h comes up perfectly!

Anyway, windows6.1-kb976932-x86-express.cab is corrupt in that error message. The Aggressive Mode fix should fix that.

My only other thoughts are that we seem to have a lot of corrupt files on this computer. I am starting to become slightly suspicious about the integrity of the hard disk, actually.

Sorry Jacee! I should have spent more time making sure about that error code.

    Hi Richard and Jacee

So sorry that i haven't been on the forums for a bit, (I've just returned from my holiday.)

Anyway i did what you said and installed sp1, but on rebooting i just get a blank screen and the hdd light just stays lit and everything crashes.

So at the end of this month i am going to upgrade the dinosaur of a computer that i have to something much faster and far superior.

I would like to thank both of you very much for all your help on trying to slove this problem for me.

Hopefully i won't have any issues with the new machine, if i do i'll let you know.

    Thanks again.

    Andy.

I had been trying numerous times installing Win7 SP1 the official way,
wasting several hour with fat useless MickeySoft FixIt tools etc., just to find out
that nothing helped but simply manually downloading and installing the update.
