    .net framework 4 issue causing XNA framework 4 issues

    Ok, sunk a couple hours into what the problem is, unfortunately I cannot work out how to fix it short of reinstalling my operating system (If I take it off, I refuse to put it back on, to many headaches already).

    Basically I needed to update to .net framework 4, and my system lied and said it was done successfully. I then tried to update to XNA framework 4, and got;

    "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908"

    Followed by;

    "An error occurred during the installation of
    assembly 'microsoft.xna.framework.avatar,fileversion="4.020823.0",version="4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",pub licKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="MSIL". Please refer to help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F"

    Which, when I googled it, told me I wasn't alone at least.

    I started looking at the 2908 error and found a few links to the Microsoft answers page, an answer and a line of people basically saying that the answer did not work. Rather than including myself in their number, I kept looking, and found the sfc/scannow command (Which refuses to run,"windows resource protection could not start the repair service"(Why don't these messages ever tell me <WHY>?)), and at Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0 problem | Terraria Online

    "In the article I posted above it says mscoree.dll could have failed to update when installing .NET framework 4, and the installer may not be aware of it. Go into your windows system32 and/or syswow64 folder and check the properties of mscoree.dll - if it's version 2.0 instead of 4.0 then the .NET framework didn't install correctly. See that article for more info."

    That is the case, the "mscoree.dll" is still version 2.something.

    That is where I am now, and pretty much everything I find says to delete and reinstall everything over and over again until it works, everything from .net 4 to my entire OS.
