    HELP!! with Windows updates

Am tidying up a friends Del Inspiron 1720 with Vista Home premium running on it.

Now I have got rid of about 2-3Gb of temp files and assorted rubbish fixed a heap of reg issues, disabled some of the boot up programs via autoruns logon that she didn't need and it is getting a little faster - not much but better.

But the fact that it keeps downloading KB2463332 - 9 times now when I shut it down is driving me nuts!!! Can someone tell e what the heck is going on?? pleas before I go completely cookoo.

Just as matter of curiosity the hard drive is making a noise like one scratching their fingernails across cardboard - not loud but noticeable and am wondering if it is failing, and hence the update problem showing up in update history.

Try this: How to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an update
Also, you can try turning auto update off(select "check for updates but let me choose whether to DL & install them") and then hide the offending update, so it wont be offered again-if you are sure it installed succesfully before.

Thanks Reaper I just did your last option seemed the best way to go. I was beginning to think perhaps I had a little nasty sitting in somewhere.
