Windows 7: shut down during restart after update

bought a pc from a friend with win 7 prem installed, started dl'in my window 7 updates, get em all dled and asks to restart, so i try and restart the machine gets all the way through the applying updates screen screen goes black for awhile but never restarts the screen just stays black and i can hear that the machine is still on. during this black screen my munchkin thought it was a good idea to push the power switch on the back.
Now i try and start my pc and it isnt detecting my harddrive, isnt listed in the bios( or im just a tart and cant find it?) and the machine hangs at verifying dmi pool data.
so um yeah...lol help please?

Have you attempted to use System Repair to either run a System Restore or a Startup Repair ? -

thanks for a reply, thing wouldnt read my harddrive and wouldnt boot from CD to run the repair when given the option
in the end i said F it and took it to a shop, speaking of i should be getting it back some time today/this weekend

When you get the system back please ask the tech what the issue was. It sure sounds like a failing Hard Drive.
