HP 2570 driver and Windows Update Problem

I have my HP 2570 connected as a network printer through my router to my Desktop and my Laptop. Am using Win7 SP1. When I run Windows Update on my laptop, most times it shows a driver update for the 2570 as an optional update. It hasn't done this on the desktop since I installed the printer eons ago. The printer seems to work just fine on either machine.

View Update History on my laptop shows many installation of the driver -- too many to try to count.

Why does Windows Update offer the optional update as often as it does and what can I do to prevent it?

    Thank you.

Check that the driver is in fact up to date on HP - United States | Laptop Computers, Desktops, Printers, Servers and more. If it is, then you should have no issue if you just hide the update. Right click, Hide Update.

I guess I will have to go the 'hide updates' route. It does bother me, though, not to understand why it happens on one machine and the other. The drivers seem to be the same and up to date.

It is strange, and I do wish I understood it, too. I had this same problem happen a few weeks ago with an ATI Radeon gpu update- for both the internal card on my motherboard, and the secondary pci card. I downloaded the latest updates for each, installed them, and the next time I ran Windows Update, they had actually disappeared. So I guess just doing that alone made it realize the drivers didn't need to be updated anymore than they were.
