    Genuine Vista to 7 RTM

If I have a genuine Windows Vista Ultimate (BenQ OEM) installed in my laptop, can I clean-install upgrade to windows-7 rtm without any key? Will Windows-7 inherit the gnuine status from my vista, or do I need an upgrade key?

You will need an upgrade/full key...you can upgrade Vista Ultimate to 7 Ultimate with an upgrade key or clean install 7 and use a full key...

If you want to use it right now than you can follow this tutorial to extend your trail to 120 days and then enter a key when you buy it around October 22nd

You can do a clean install with either key. Actually i should say you can upgrade or clean install with either key.

MS isn't clear on the stance yet. They previously said that you need an activated version of Vista, then you will install over that. In Vista upgrades, it would nullify your existing CD Key so it's very confusing. Now rumors are coming out saying that you only need to insert the CD. You should see news about this on Windows 7 sites in the coming days

What you're asking is, is windows 7 free if you have a genuine copy of vista. No, I'm afraid it's not, you'll need to buy an upgrade copy and install over the top of vista with 7, using your new upgrade key.

The genuine Vista status is simply what would let you use the cheaper upgrade disc(s) rather than the "normal" full ones. You still need to activate with a new Windows 7 key. No, it will not magically "inherit" Vista's genuine status.
