When SP1 fails and all options tried....

This is on a 3 week old netbook with W7 starter. I have tried 5 or 6 times to install SP1 and all fail. I have tried all the MS fixes, troubleshooter and disabling Anti virus but it end the same...

    Troubleshooting steps

Hello jonmal & Welcome to SevenForums!

    - Does it give any specific error message? (example: Error 0x800f0826). It's likely we'll filter a lot of possibilities by having an error message!

    - Are you sure you can have updates like this on the Windows Starter Edition? Because of the possibilities, licence etc you might not be able to. - Eitherway, I don't know.

    - A full scan of Malwarebytes is recommended just in-case!

    - Have you tried running System Update Readiness Tool? If not, try going to the path C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log and upload it here please!

    - Do you have Daemon Tools installed? If so, try uninstalling it.

    Best Regards,
    FredeGail

Thanks for your reply, here is the error message, it is always the same:
    ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0X80070490)
As far as I can see Windows7 Starter should accept SP1.
I did the full scan with Malwarebytes - all clean.
    I'll post the log today.

Are you installing SP1 by itself or with other updates?

Now I've run the System readiness tool - hotfix. Tried the sp1 again and, surprise surprise, exactly the same result with the same error code.
Is the only option the Repair installation of Windows?

    What anti-virus are you using?
Do you have any other programs running while trying to install SP1?

If Windows Updates is causing the issue, you might want to consider buying an SP1 disc for a moninal sum:
