Hi Monty, Welcome to the Windows 7 forums!

Do you have service pack one? If not have you tried directly downloading service pack one from Microsoft's webiste?

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

    Hi, thanks for the welcome.

Yes have sp1 and all others, so up to date, the three listed have been installed 10 times with a couple of failures at the beginning?

It looks daunting at first glance, and there's a lot to read. Have you followed steps in this article? If you don't understand some parts I'm sure either myself or someone else can point you in the right direction :).

I would never recommend hiding an update due to a looping install issue. The proper solution is to:

    1) Turn off the Windows Update service.
    2) Delete the contents of the Windows\Software Distribution folder (I actually delete the entire folder).
    3) Turn the service back on.
    4) Manually check updates.

And NEVER, EVER, turn Automatic Updates off. There is simply NO justifiable reason for it.

A follow up on my previous statement.
I had a few nasty experiences with xp updates in the past, now I wait for a while before installing updates in case there are problems.

I think this practice will be followed on Window 7
