    Windows 7 Update Problems

A week ago I changed my MB and CPU from Asus p8p67 and i5 2500k to Asus p8z67 and a different i5. I use the PC for gaming. When I changed over I decided to do a clean install of windows 7 on my SSD. Since that time I can't get windows to update. Also, I couldn't get it to install SP1 and MSE. Both installs start, but error before the end.

Other than the update problems the computer seems to run fine. I have clean installed several times, run many many virus and malware programs with no finds. I have read tons of post on this forum and others and tried all of the suggestions. When I started, windows would not even connect to check for updates. The updater now connects and tells me there are 83 updates, but it won't download them-just times out after a bit.

I have attached a log of this mornings attempts, any help is very appreciated. The only suggestion I found that I haven't tried is re-installing the updater.Update txt.zip

When I ran it last night it just reported some errors that it couldn't fix. As soon as I am home again I will run it and let you know exactly what it says.

    Read the tutorial.

The tutorial will tell you how to generate a file that will have info in it that we need.

Attach that sfcdetails.txt file to your next post.

sfc is now giving you a clean bill of health.

What anti-virus program are you using?

    What firewall are you using?

Download, install and run CCleaner (link in my sig)

    Then carry out following procedure:
LIST OF STARTUP PROGRAMS USING CCLEANER

CCleaner | Tasks icon | Startup tab | click on Save to text file button (bottom right side)

Using the PAPER CLIP icon in the top panel of a Message Reply window, attach the .txt file generated by CCleaner.

I have been trying to update using no antivirus. I specifically did a clean install with no antivirus software to try. The system is using the windows firewall with settings as they were installed. A few other strange things with the system:

I tried to install MSE and right at the end of the install it fails.

After the computer has been running for a minute or so it notifies me that Windows Defender needs to be turned on. If I try and turn Defender on it just sits there trying to start and eventually fails and times out.

I also tried to manually install SP1 and that failed. At one point I tried to do an Upgrade install with Windows Home Premium. I checked download updates and it downloaded a very small update and started installing. At the end of the install it said some hardware wasn't compatible and rolled back. This was at the part where it had already loaded video drivers and everything. Except for the Asus p8z67 and the new i2500k the hardware is exactly the same as what was running on this windows disc for several months perfectly. In the device manager everything shows as having drivers. I will attached a picture of my non pnp drivers.

I have run Malware bytes, Avast and several other scanners with non of them showing me any malicious results. I will run CCleaner in a few hours when I get home.

WIN | type MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab |

    uncheck ALL except for

    avast "C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\avastUI.exe" /nogui

Don't worry you haven't deleted anything. You have simply told Win 7 to not start the programs at startup time.

WIN is the key with the microsoft flag on top.

    Restart your computer.

Now don't try to install anything.

    Just shutdown your computer.

    Powerup your computer.

Go to Control Panel |windows update | and choose one and only one uptdate to install. Choose the oldest on the list.

    Does the install work?

No that doesn't work. Today my computer is not recognizing there are any updates at all-it can't connect to the servers or something. Yesterday it thought there was 83 updates available and today it just says can't connect. I don't have a list to choose any install from. It is giving me the error Code C80003FA, which I think is a server connection issue.

I just barely put avast on the PC. Most of everything I have been doing is without it. Just makes me nervous not having some sort of AV.

Edit: So I rolled back the system to yesterday when Avast was not installled. The PC would not connect to windows update. I used HostsXpert 4.4 and reset the hosts file. The PC now connects and tells me there are 85 important updates. I tried unchecking all updates but the oldest and it will not download it. If I try to just download them normally it goes for a few seconds and tries to install IE9. The IE9 install fails and so does the updater. At this point it gives me 2 error codes:

    Code 8E5E03FA
    Code C355

    Clicked download again and get

    Code 80248007

I have gotten several BSOD and they are all related to luafv.sys.
