Windows 7: Windows Update Resets Network Settings

Windows Update Resets Network Settings

Hey all,

I've had Windows 7 since it was released and this problem has been occurring the entire time--I've finally gotten so sick of it to try and fix it.

Here's the issue: every time I install a Windows Update, be it important or otherwise, my NIC's settings change upon restart. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32-Bit and an Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit NIC on which I have disabled the Power Management properties in Device Manager (e.g., "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" and "allow this device to wake the computer"). Unfortunately, these settings will become enabled every time I install updates and restart, forcing me to go into Device Manager and disable them again.

As far as I can tell, these are the only settings reset by a Windows Update, but then again, these are the only settings I have manually changed in Device Manager.

Does anybody know how to keep Windows Update from resetting my NIC's settings?

Thanks!
