I did a Win 7 system image restore yesterday and have just noticed when going to check for updates that all of the previous updates history has vanished. There were quite a lot of updates including stuff for Office 2003 as well as Windows 7 but they are no longer listed and the last checked status is saying never.
The updates are still applied to the system as by checking in excel for Office 2003 it indicates SP3 which was one of the updates that has vanished, it is just the list that has gone?
I would have though that a system image restore would have kept this type of information?
Same thing happened when I restored from my Windows backup.
They are all still listed in the Installed updates section in Control Panel\Programs and Features, which is the one that matters because you can uninstall them there if need arises.
Many imaging apps delete SysVolumeInformation and Paging File to save space. This could well affect the Intalled updates list which provides a way to roll back Updates, just as it removes related Restore Points.
