How to avoid Installation of WIN 7 SP1 ?

Due to its interference with aspects of some software I run , I wish to avoid the installation of SP1 but allow other MS updates .

After replying to a recent message from MS informing me of the availability of recent updates SP1 installed together with the other updates which were also available.

I have now uninstalled SP1 in order to get my affected software running again.

Can I have the SP1 update automatically excluded from these regular update invitations lists so that the danger of another inadvertant inclusion with other desirable updates.

1. You need to have Windows Update set as MANUAL.

2. Next time SP1 shows up for install, right click at it > click Hide.

Not sure it is a good idea NOT to install SP1. Some future updates will depend on SP1 being already installed.

It's going to be difficult getting new updates since most updates are going to update components of Windows that SP1 did. What software is being affected?

On the Windows Update Screen, right click SP1 and then click "Hide Update" that should make it go away.

I agree with the logic of your reply here but the question which should surely be asked is why SP1 should break something which worked before it was installed !

The software in question is the Logitec "Squeexebox" which I use to stream music files from my hard disk. The streaming works OK but my access to the web page of the music server involved which was accessed by the URL http://127.0.0.1:9000 is no longer available after SP1 is installed- something to do with access to the port 9000 I understand.

On the Squeezebox Forum there is the following work-around for this which is supposed to enable such access with SP1 installed but I have been unable to have any success following it.

Bizarrely enough after the SP1 update could run the squeezebox fine of the server, as long as i did not reboot. After every reboot needed to re-install the SBS software!
Solved it thanks to Wilkes and others
several people asking for a walkthrough though so here goes :

1 control panel/windows firewall/advanced settings
2 go to inbound rules
3 locate ALL rules named "Squeezebox Server" and DELETE them
4 Make NEW rule
Name: Squeezebox Server
Program : direct it to the SqueezeSrv.exe file on your computer
-> Usualy at C:\Program Files (x86)\Squeezebox\server\SqueezeSvr.exe
Protocol: UDP
Specific Ports: 3483, 9000, 9090
Advanced/profiles/private (private only)
5 Make NEW rule
Name: Squeezebox Server
Program : All Programs
Protocol: TCP
Specific Ports: 3483, 9000, 9090
Advanced/profiles/private (private only)"

Incidentally , there are several users of this s/w having the same problem as can be seen if one follows the posts on the SB Forum

As already mentioned, hiding SP1 is a temporary solution. Since SP1 is just a roll-up of updates up to that point, the individual updates may still try to install since many are required for other updates (prerequisites). And, you loose some very serious security protection. I would keep Windows up to date and use the workaround. It looks like it allows a single server to use backdoors to your system. Not a particularly wise choice so I would put the pressure on Logitec to change its method. You're assuming the Squeezebox server will always be secure too. What if they are short-cutting security just like you?
