Windows 7: Problem installing KB2536276

Problem installing KB2536276

I get error 800B0100 when trying to install KB2536276.
I downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness Tool, but it did no good - installation of KB2536276 still fails.

Anybody else run into this?
Anybody know how to get around the problem?

Try downloading KB 2536276 manually to your desktop > then install it.

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2536276)

More information....

Error message when you try to use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates: "0x800B0100"

Is that wise considering that I followed the procedure mentioned in that second link (running the System Update Readiness Tool and retry the install) and it didn't help. If I have a hosed over registry and the tool to fix related registry problems didn't fix it, I'm hesitant to go forward manually.

Uh, no. I stopped reading at the "Method for Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003" line; I assumed everything from there on was for older systems.

I guess I'd better give it a try.

Update: I downloaded and tried running the fix under "Fix it for me". It said it didn't apply to my operating system. do you know that it's supposed to work for Windows 7 x64?

*All advice was based on your KB number & Error ID as listed....
"Fix it" works for some problems....not all.

*Have you a System Restore spot created BEFORE the problem commenced?

*If not it looks like the next step is to contact Microsoft Technical Support directly.

This fix was one of several I tried putting on using System Update. I'm pretty sure a system restore point is created by the Update process so I'm sure I've got the restore point. I guess a system restore is the next step.

Remember to go to the restore point PRIOR to the update problem.

System restore failed. I tried 2 different ones but no luck with either one. The error message suggested I turn off anti-virus security programs so I turned off mine - ZoneAlarm Security Suite - but that had no effect. I have no idea what state I'm in now (other than the state of confusion).

Uninstall Zone Alarm. Completely. Then try again.
