    product key finder programs

I came across this statement from a user in another forum.
    Is the statement correct ?
    If no, please briefly explain.
If possible, please provide link to this subject.
    Thank you.

Topic : Key finder programs to help finding product key that is un-readable.

    Statement quote ......
Product Key Finder Programs are USELESS for Preinstalled Vista Computers, as they only find the Manufacturers Factory Installation Product Key, which is used for mutiple installations during Computer Manufacturing.

The big OEM's like Dell, Acer, etc, use a master product code and activate against the SLIC table in the PC's BIOS. The keyfinders will retrieve the product key but that key is useless if you try to use it to install and activate an off the shelf OEM version of windows. The Microsoft activation servers will reject it. As Theog posted, you can't use it to activate on line or via phone. The keyfinder program isn't useless, but that key is. ;-)
