    Tommy,

Let's go at this one at a time.

You decide which problem you would like to solve first and the update your system specs to fully reflect the desired computer.

Please read and follow this info to fully update your System Specs:

    UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS

User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
Your Profile (left-hand column, Edit System Spec |

    To gather info, use
Speccy - System Information - Free Download
or SIW or the System Info tool,
Use System Info to see your System Specs

Please add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
    “system manufacturer” block.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
    MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

What wonder working software have you installed lately?

Normally, IE 9 install produces not problems.

do me a favor and post a copy of the msg you get when you try to install.

    Before you do,
    | type SERVICES.MSC | ENTER

Now your objective is make sure that the following three services are started:

    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    Cryptographic Services
    Windows Update

If you are using Norton, then disable before you try to update.
If you are using AVG, then disable before you try to update.
If you are using SpyBot, then uninstall and leave uininstalled.
If you arfe using Ad-aware, then uninstall and leave uninstalled.

Lately = nothing apart from the ‘info’ program from your thread.

Normally, IE 9 install produces not problems.
    I know.

do me a favor and post a copy of the msg you get when you try to install.

    Before you do,
    | type SERVICES.MSC | ENTER

Now your objective is make sure that the following three services are started:

    Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    Cryptographic Services
    Windows Update
All come up as “Started + Auto”.

If you are using Norton, then disable before you try to update.
If you are using AVG, then disable before you try to update.
If you are using SpyBot, then uninstall and leave uininstalled.
If you arfe using Ad-aware, then uninstall and leave uninstalled.
Never use Norton any more – don’t trust it.
Have not used AVG or SpyBot since running W7.
I do use malwarebytes, so will disable it whilst trying another update. Will post the message later - I’m sure it just says “didn’t install properly”.

    Tommy

PS: The system has installed all other updates, inc SP1.

    Tommy,
    Go back to Window Update.

Do not select the IE9 update.

Now install the rest of the updates, one at a time.

    Did they all install correctly?

    Hi Karl,
    Thanks again for your help.

Everything that has come up before, has installed/updated perfectly fine.
The only things that I'm not installing, are the foreign languages that I don't use.

Generally, my updates are set to Auto. It hasn’t had a problem updating anything else.

This isn’t a recent phenomenon. I’ve been trying to load IE9 ever since it came out. I have tried Auto Update, Manual update, disc update. I have enabled & disabled different programs prior to trying etc, a dozen times or more over the months.

(I don’t want to confuse matters here, or ask you to try solving a separate problem. I merely add it here as it looks coincidental and in case it helps you to help me & others.

This 'desktop' machine has installed all previous updates, inc SP1 - but not IE9.
My Laptop (same W7 ult) has also installed all previous updates, inc IE9,,,, but won’t take SP1.
On the face of it - to my limited mind – it looks like a similar problem, but with different updates.)

    tommy,
There may a specific fix for the IE9 problem.

I know procedures for update installs failing in general but before you go thru all of that, let me ask some of the chaps if they have a specific answer.

Now that I've said that you may be bombarded with suggestions by greenhorns. I always like to have solved a specific problem myself before recommending an action or there are a chaps here whose depth of knowledge is absolutely amazing, and when they say something then I snap to and pay attention.

Hold on and let's hope some of the experts are still at their computers.

While waiting, you might want to try a MS article solution:
