    How do I cancel Windows 7 license


    I am planning to retire my laptop but I how do I cancel the Windows 7 registered license which I bought and installed it separately?

    Product Key Number - Uninstall and Deactivate in Windows
    The problem with that scheme is if the OP has a store bought OEM license. These are tied to the first motherboard they are installed on so if the original computer retires, so does the license.

    OTOH, if its a retail license, those are freely transferrable subject to being used on only one computer at a time. Just remove windows from this computer and use the key on the new one. If the time period between activating the key the first time and the second time is relatively small, you may require phone activation but thats not a problem.

    If it's an OEM Key it's irrelevant (i.e. has a COA sticker on the computer case) - the License died with the computer.

    If It's a Retail License, then simply install it in your new computer, and activate by telephone.
