They may be able to come up with the key for you as it was supposed to be logged to your SN to tie it to Vista key under the Upgrade Kit agreement with MS which was quite stringent requiring a separate DVD with only the OS.

I was told this dirrectly by an Acer Support supervisor who provided the key for one of our home boxes for which my roommate lost the disk about a year after I clean installed it for him.

Activation Trial Period - Extend Up to 120 Days - Windows 7 Forums

Let us know how it goes. MS Customer Service might even be of some assistance here so I wouldn't give up until you run out of options, including using a microscope on the sticker.

Thanks for that. Don't think I hold out much hope of reading the sticker though, couldn't of done a better job of rubbing it out if I had tried

Thanks for the advice, spoke to Microsoft and they gave me a replacement product key so all good
