List of updates required to be installed before SP1 is installed?

    Hello,

Is there a list of hotfixes that are required to be installed prior to installing SP1?

I am trying to slipstream SP1 into an installation DVD for Windows 7. It works fine, however, after I installed my newly created DVD, I found an update that said "You must install this patch before you install SP1. If you have already installed SP1, please uninstall it, reinstall this patch, then reinstall SP1." Obviously I want to integrate that patch before I slipstream SP1.

Is there a list of patches that need to be applied before SP1 is applied?

    Thanks,
    Casey

    Hi,

I was also wondering about this because recently I've been working with 2 laptops and 1 desktop that had OEM recovery partitions with Windows 7 SP0 and found it to be quite time consuming and annoying to not be able to immediately install SP1 because of some prerequisite hotfix that was needed.

In case you've forgotten, a fresh SP0 installation has roughly 100 hotfixes from Windows Update (which a lot of them are a part of SP1 so why be forced to install them all first) so unless you know exactly which ONE to install to get SP1 able to install, it's quite frustrating.

I only figured this out right now since I'm currently working on a laptop with a oem recovery partition, and looking at one of JMH's links this information was printed and I decided to try it out and see what happens:

"Install Windows Updates KB2454826, KB2534366, and KB2533552 (these updates will improve a successful installation of the service pack)"

So I checked my offered updates and KB2454826 and KB2533552 were available for my system. Going by the descriptions of each I would say that KB2533552 is the culprit: "Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on all editions of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2."

After installing those two hotfixes SP1 was then available via Windows Update, and I am currently installing it via the SP1 standalone installer, and did not need to install all >100 hotfixes first. I wish I took the time to figure this out when I was working on the other systems recently, it would have saved a bunch of time!

Hey wondering what i should. My laptop downloaded updates and eventually had to restart in order to install them. On trying to apply the updates it causes a fatal error. One of the things it was installing was SP1. What should i do? Any advice??? Thanks

In situations such as this it is wise to check Event Viewer for further information.

    Event viewer.
Type eventvwr in search and go to the windows log>application tab.
Look for errors that have red in the left hand column that say app hang, or app crash, or anything relating to the CURRENT problem.
We need the Source & Event ID.
When you find any make a screenshot and upload them to us.

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
