windows update

hi, can anyone please help although l have automatic updates turned on, on my w/7 home premium x64 l would like to manually update from time to time but each time l try it says the update service is not running to be honest l'm no slouch at this pc lark and have tried all l've read to correct this problem with no luck,l dont even have a windows update icon in my start menu, thanks guys.

Try this: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
then check windows update.

hi, thanks for your reply but l'm sorted l read that l had to write a bunch of stuff in cmd and it worked so thanks again for your input.
