Being this happened on my Birthday I will probably get blamed for the crap/group of downloads for today.
This is why you should not download them blindly. Open them up and see what it is they are updating. IMHO

As for the first one (values of 32-bit versions of registry entries) ... I don't have those registry keys at all. Why? Does it matter?

As for the second one (jump list more than 999 items) ... I don't use jump lists, so it doesn't matter.

As for the earlier item (Office 2007 SP3) ... I don't have Office 2007. I still use Office 2003. So why is it offering me an update for software that I don't even have???

Read it again lhorwinkle, it is the "Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 3 (SP3)", not SP3 for Office 2007. And just in case you're wondering what it is,

    Oops. Sorry.

The thread go me thinking I should run Windows Update.
Once there I found an update called "The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 3 (SP3)".
That's not the one mentioned in this thread. But that's the one I was asking about.

So the question remains: Why is it asking me to update Office 2007 when I don't even have it?

In Windows Update, the "more info" link takes me to an MS page, which says: "The 2007 MS Office suite SP3 and MS Office Language Pack 2007 SP3 provide the latest updates to the 2007 Office suite and to Office Language Pack 2007".

    That doesn't address my question.

Hmmm ... maybe there's something in my recently-installed Visual Studio 2008 that triggered this new update. The VS 2008 package included something called "Microsoft Office Document Scanning". Maybe that one begs for the MS Office 2007 SP3 update?

Are you sure that you don't have a Trial install, left over from the Manufacturer's 'crapware' installs? - even if you never used or 'installed' the trial, it will still update!
