Windows update stuck on 'installing 4 of 32' for nearly 2 hours.

    Hello everyone,

I hate updating my computer. It seem that every time I update bad things happen.

This evening I shut my laptop down allowing it to update. The blue screen is stating....

'Please do not power off or unplug your computer, installing update 4 of 32'

It has been like this for best part of 2 hours. There has been very little activity from the hard drive LED. There is the revolving circle and moving '...' on the screen and they are active.

I am frightened to force it to shut down in case it wont start again as it is mid update.

Any advise would be great. Many thanks.

We need your system specs, network setup and Connection speed.

If you have not updated to SP-1 (it is over 500 Mb) and your connection isnt the fastest that may be within a reasonable amount of time.

I have bitten the bullet and force it to shut down. On restart all seems to be okay and it is not showing any updates are available so I assume that they all installed.

Bit of a strange one, maybe it did the updates but just hung before it shut down.

    All is well now anyway.

    Many thanks for your reply.
