Windows could not check for updates automatically

    Hello,

trying to get my Windows to update. When I tell it to try, it scans for a while and them stops.

No error code, it's just in red and listed as an important message in the action center.
(Before people tell me to try in Safemode, I did, and you can't. Even though Microsoft says to try that, it's not possible )

Hmmm - an off-the-wall suggestion, since some of the same services and files are involved....

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Then while you're waiting for a response from that, download the CheckSUR tool -install it, then post the log file

I am downloading the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems now.

Edit: I installed that second tool. The website says that the logs can be found at:

    %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    %SYSTEMROOT%\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

however, I can't find these files. Any idea where I might find them? (Tried searching the file name)

    OK _
As half-expected, there's no problems evident in the MGADiag report, but it does give us some data that may be needed later anyhow :)
