    Exactly how to fix it, I'm not sure yet - I'll have to research it (and I'm not convinced that it will fix your problem, anyhow)

    Sure - carry on with method 2, as it's more likely to fix your problem than the repair of these errors is.

    OK -
    Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and enter the following commands
    ping download.windowsupdate.com
    IPCONFIG /ALL
    proxycfg -d
    net stop wuauserv
    net start wuauserv

    post the output in your response.

    What Firewall are you using? Windows own, or something else?

    Nah - turns out that Proxycfg is a Server command, rather than a workstation one :)

    Did wuauserv stop and start OK?

    I'll have to do some research - and it's bedtime for me now. Back tomorrow!

Windows Can't Check For Updates Automatically
in Windows Updates & Activation

Getting error code: 80070005 I have made sure I am logged in as administrator. Also tried rebooting PC, modem and router. Done Malware and Virus scans. I'm also having trouble installing updates from online services. I think these problems are related.
