I thought the orange package was the family pack, am I wrong here? Single installs are "Green for Home Premium", "Blue for Pro" and "Black for Ultimate".

Yup.....just checked.....orange packaging is Family pack upgrades (3 computers).

Edit: Also orange for OEM multi packs

Okay; I've just installed Windows 7 Home Premium onto my Macbook Pro again.

Once again it tells me that the key is invalid. It gives this error: 0xC004C008 and tells me "The activation server determined that the specified product key could not be used."

As far as I know it was activated before I had to delete it from my computer.
(I had to format the hard drive to remove it)

The Family Pack is an UPGRADE only - which requires that you at least own a valid Full license for the machine on which you are installing.
A MacBook does not have a Windows license on it - therefore you are required to have Full Retail copy of Windows XP or Vista for that machine to be able to legally install the Family Pack Upgrade.

However, that might be a box in the box (although I don't remember ever having a box like those ones you showed me and I doubt there'd be a box in a box).
    Packaging is OEM 3 pack.

    Ah - the OEM3-pack.
That raises a whole different set of questions :)
Techncally, OEM licenses cannot be installed by the end-user - they must be pre-installed using the OPK and then sold to a third party.
I know of no instances where MS has actually enforced this rule - but the option is there.
OEM licenses are not suitable for use in VM's because they are locked to the first 'motherboard' on which they are activated - and in a VM, the virtual motherboard can change with each version of the host.

The Pack should have had 3 Keys in it- and three COA stickers. If it did not, then it's a counterfeit.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
    - **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

There is only one COA sticker on the package (and one key on that sticker). I doubt it's counterfeit though, I got it from TigerDrect.ca (however, I was at the actual store when I bought it).

    On the sticker it says:

    Windows 7 Home Prem
    OEM Software

and then under that are two barcodes and a bunch of numbers and letters beside those along with the product key over the second bar code.

There's nothing apparently wrong with the installation - telephone activation should do it.

    telephone activation.
    Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
    and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions - but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.
