Windows 7: Can't see updates in Windows Update.

We must pay attention not to confuse things here - you are talking about not seeing updates you already installed in the respective list. In contrast I am talking about new updates which are currently NOT installed. Clicking on these Updates (optional or important updates) brings up an empty page, so I can neither see details on the upates nor can I select or deselect them. However I do see the updates which have been installed.

Ok... strange, thanks for the hint. What about the suggested "regserv32" command (see above). Any ideas what it does?

EDIT: I just read on the page you linked (the WU reset tool) that if you do that manually you have to execute several "regsvr32 *.dll" commands, among which I found exactly those two I posted before... So applying the tool would actually include those commands. Therefore it might be worth the try to execute those two commands and see first it this is enough.

The way I found to get back the list of update available was doing this 10 seconds procedure.

1) hit "CTRL+ALT+DEL"
2) click "Task Manager"
3) click the "Process" tab
4) find "explorer.exe" (not iexplorer.exe)
5) kill by selecting the "explorer.exe" and click the button "End Process". You will lose the desktop at this point. Not to worry, it will come back as it was.
6) click the "Application" tab in the "Task Manager"
7) create a new application and type "explorer.exe"
8) your desktop will reapear like it was before
9) close the task manager
10) go back to windows update and now you are able to see the updates

What cause the issue, I do not know. How to fix it permanently, I do not know but this procedure works every time for me.

It's quick and easy and does not seem to affect the system. My system stays on all the time (weeks before I restart the system) it do not slow down my system at all.

I'm running Windows 7 Prem Fam Ed 64bit.

Hope this helps !

By the way, I am translating from a French Windows 7 so I might not have given you the exact words for the procedure but you should understand this pretty easy.

Up..!

Guys, did you find any solution besides killing explorer.exe and re-starting it? This is really annoying me, as everytime there are new updates I can see how many they are but I can't see what they are!

Thanks for the tip about the explorer.exe, it works, but it's only a work-around. This bug must be fixed sometime.. dang

The trick with the Task Manager, worked perfectly for me too. I have to notice though that I saw an application tab of Flash Player opening by itself. A couple of days ago I upgraded Flash Player to the version of 11.3.300.265. I don't know if it is a coincidence but I suppose that this problem might have something to do with the last version on Flash Player.

I've found that this issue appears after waking up from a hibernation and disappears after a restart. But another hibernation makes the issue appear again.

Any ideas to fix it?
