BIOS incomplete - it SLP-ped Acer's Repair Dept's mind

Feb. 15 a low-left screen popup congratulated me on my latest Microsoft Security ESSENTIALS update - and at the same time reminded me of the fact that I had an illegitimate license! Well, thank you!!
The error code given was 0xC004F058.
Boy - was I intrigued!
A month ago my computer retail outlet had shown me that my newly restored Acer 7740 G was OK after they had received it back from Acer's Repair Dept. after it had been gone for a month upon suddenly shorting out at the start of December. They had seen fit to replace the motherboard and the HDD, after only half a year of intensive use (I must admit - shortly after I had bought it had made a nasty 1 m fall flat on the carpet).
After some looking up on the web and discussing results of this with this outlet it was established that Acer Repair had forgotten to properly SLIC and SLP the machine, and the three parties involved - Microsoft, Acer, and this outlet - saw no other way out than me having to hand in the laptop to Acer. Again. And then after having it back having to install every program etc. Again.
The shop contends that they cannot check whether after having the laptop back, the BIOS has been properly modified, so it could happen to me again. Is their contention correct?
I was wondering whether I could do something constructive myself in terms of SLIC-ing and SLP-ping; according to those 3 parties not as they contend that the part of the BIOS I would have to access is roped off.
I know what the new Product ID and CD Key are though.

Unfortunately not an unusual story
Please post an MGADiag report - it should tell us a lot.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine, but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Thanks
The problem is that the SLIC table in the BIOS isn't being properly read by the OS - and that table is required to be able to properly self-activate the OEM_SLP Key in use here.
The solution is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page, and activat that one - you may have to activate by phone.

Below is the MGD Report after changing the Product Key as you advised.
I notice that one line didn't change: 'BIOS valid for OA 2.0: yes, but no Windows marker'.
I reinstalled and ran MS Essentials as the first sign of trouble came when an Essentials upgrade notification was accompanied by the message that my current Windows installation was illegitimate. Bot this only happened one month after I had my laptop back from ACER Repair.
I'm still wondering whether the product key change now, is enough for legitimization.

Yes, it is enough - you have the COA sticker on the right motherboard - it's simply that Acer forgot to properly flash the BIOS before installation (I've seen it happen a number of times with Acer - they seem to be particularly bad about this aspect of QC)

Everything looks fine now

Good Luck!

Please tell me Noel, are there lines in the MGD Report that confirm the legitimacy status despite the Windows marker missing, and if so which lines?

Oh Gawd!
MGADiags are complex beasts - which I'm trying to create a few articles about in the WGA group to allow people to learn about.

Let's take your report and pull out and highlight the important bits as far as you are concerned.

I've boldened the critical pieces
Starting from the top....
The Validation Code shows that the system passed the test that MGADiag applied
The Cached Online Vaidation Code whows thatteh System has been validated online, and passed (but doesn't specify on what date!)

The Windows License Type shows that it's a COA Key from a Direct OEM (big-name manufacturer), as distinct to a Key from an OEM System Builder.

The fact that there is nothing in the File Scan Data shows that KB971033 is installed, and that its file-check couldn't find anything wrong - meaning that there is a reduced chance of a hacker's Activation Exploit being responsible for activation 'passing' - it's not infallible, but it's a good pointer.

The Licentiestatus shows that the native language isn't English! <g> - and also that the machine is licensed.

The Event Time Stamp shows that Validation occurredat 15:17 on 19th Feb 2012 (today) - 25 minutes before you ran the report ('Vertrouwde tijd')

The OEM Activation 2.0 Data is largely irrelevant, because the COA Key doesn't require any SLIC table at all, let alone the Windows Marker - but does at least show that a SLIC table is present, and that it's one for thhe same make of machine declared in the 'Other Data section' of the report. - demonstrating again that it's less likely to be the result of a hacker's exploit.
