    Questions about system activation

Today I logged into windows 7 RTM and I checked my system. It says under windows activation

    Status Not Available
    Product ID: Not Available

does this mean that there is somehow no activation period? I still hadn't activated it with a valid key as I don't have one but since it says not available will I not have to?

No, that's not what it means. It simply takes a little while to check the activation status. If you watch the screen for a short while, it should update itself and report the correct activation status, in your case, not activated and how many days left to activate.

The Status No Available if longer than 2 to 5 secs... is found when you are using Illegal Programs to attempt Illegal Activation.

    Enough said...

the software protection service was disabled
enable it and it will show you your current stand on activation...
    Services description said:
Enables the download, installation and enforcement of digital licenses for Windows and Windows applications. If the service is disabled, the operating system and licensed applications may run in a notification mode. It is strongly recommended that you not disable the Software Protection service.
