Do I need to turn off Windows Automatic Updates?

I am just wondering if its necessary to download all the updates. The computer technician told me that it will consume a lot of memory if I will not turn off the updates.

Suggestions please? I'm just a newbie

Windows Updates are vital from many perspectives...

Next week you will be offered new updates.
It's also known as Patch Tuesday or Wednesday, depending where in the world you are...
On rare occasions (if a security vulnerability warrants it), Microsoft might release a patch out-of-band (meaning not on patch Tuesday/ Wednesday)... doesn't often happen though.

IMHO tis a good idea to have your computer set to inform you, but not download or install any updates offered.
Would also recommend you do a few at a time rather than oodles at once.

Tis a good idea to create a System Restore point before downloading....just in case!

Updates are fixes, and security updates. You absolutely need most of them. Why dont you want to download them?

Unless the "computer technician" installed you a non.legit windows or office version, theres nothing to worry about windows updates.

Windows 7 will not boot after automatic updates.
Hello, I'm running a Dell XPS 420 that was upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit in Feb-2011. It had been running fine until recently when the automatic updates prevented it from booting and forced me to restore to an earlier point. I'd run the updates manually and all would be...
