Got the same errors here... After the 1st failed install (around 25mb), i pushed again to reinstall in WU and got no failling message as it was looking like Ok in WU History.
This was for the version of Microsoft Games for Windows - Live Redistributable v3.5.92.0

After a minute or so, came the Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace update (around 4,3Mb) of the v3.5.50.0.

Only this one gave me the error (Code 80070643). I decided to uninstall all of the Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace. Cleaned also all the prior logs left from both install in my users accounts.

I'll wait either MS fix it soon.:)

Guys, try this. remove windows live essential from add remove. reboot. restore hidden update. install.
then reinstall live essenials. The live essentials log in is borking the update.

Yeah, though it was something to do with Windows Live ID...corrupted only for Games for Windows.

The other WLE parts installed are working for me.

if you dont want to waste anymore time sorting out this cock up. my previous client download is now updated anyway!
download from it and the borked update changes to not needed.

But when you re-install essentials, it offers you the borked untested update again. I don't know why they struggle and try to fix these programs they should leave to third party devs.
Just leave it broken like 'video not found' errors in media center, I mean that's been there for three years!

It will offer you the update again if you reinstall anything essential related, and will fail again.

The issue is the Windows Live ID Sign In Assistant. Your computer(s) already have a newer version installed the the update offers, so the installation fails and rolls back, causing the update to be offered again. It is a Microsoft patch issue that needs to be resolved. There are several "fixes" offered in the thread I have posted below, however none work/are permanent.

Looks like if you try to force the update to install and it fails, you cannot login anymore in Games For Windows 3.5.

Well, guess to hide the update, wait for a patch to come!
