Will popping out my hard drive, installing windows 8 on a new one....

(You guys said not to have a short thread title)

I want to Install windows 8 on my laptop. Here's my idea:

Pop out my hard drive with all my windows 7 stuff on it and pop in another hard drive, then install windows 8 and hope for the best.

My questions is after all is said and done, will I be able to put my old hard drive back in, and have no problems booting up windows 7 and playing my games and using my programs and what not?

    yes, that will be ok.

make sure you keep hold of that 7 drive, 8 is a bit controversial, to say the least...

I would never lose that windows 7 drive, all my games are on that and lots of expensive programs. But thank you for clarifying and confirming that.

one hard drive won't know about the existence of the other.

do you have your data (music, pictures etc) on an external drive, or up in the cloud - ie is it available?

Yeah my music and stuff is on an external drive.

I hope that doesn't effect anything. It'll also be the first time I've cracked this laptop open.

Back up also a System image to external so you can reimage the HD or replacement in 20 minutes if necessary: Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup
