Activation problem?

I hope someone can help me. I have a couple Win 7 machines. The first thing I do after putting on a new image is to active windows, but for some reason when I return to the machines a few days later it requires the acvtivation code again? Does this have to do with the fact that I am using an image and not a fresh install?

Thanks for the help

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Didn't you make the image after having activated the Windows? Is it possible that you you made a mistake in feeding the Product Key but did not wait long enough to check if it was activated or not?

Do the machines require the activation code every time you boot them after a couple of days?

Hi,

Sysprep was run after the I completed the image in order to prompt for windows activation code everytime I image a new machine. It's random since not all the machines will prompt me for the activation again, only about 5 out of the 10 machines will state that I need to re-enter the product key after a couple of days. It's not required everytime I reboot them just at random...

It appears that you are using the Windows 7 imaging tool. There are plenty of threads on this Forum that advise against using it because of its unreliability. Although I use Acronis which I find very handy, I understand that Macrium Reflect is as good or even better. I suggest that you please read Imaging with free Macrium in the tutorials.

Anyway the need to feed the activation code (Product Key) again has I think nothing to do with restoring from an image or carrying out a fresh install. If the image that was restored was not made from an activated Windows 7, then asking for the activation is but quite natural.

If I am not mistaken WINPE was used as the image tool. I understand that prompting for windows product key is natural, but it should only prompt me once and when I enter the product key it event state that my Windows is Gennuine, but a week later it will ask me again for the product key...

Thanks for the link, I will read through all the material and re-think the image process.

I strongly suggest that when this happens next time then please ask Microsoft on the telephone to activate Windows 7. Let us then see if it would happen again after that.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. I will call Microsoft to activate some of these machines and see if that makes a difference.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you
