New USB device not installing drivers from windows updates

Okay, here's the problem. When i plug in a new usb device, windows is supposed to look for updates to install the device right ? well in my case, it doesn't and i'm not able to access the pendrive. On the other hand, if i try toplug in an old and previously used pen drive, it works perfectly. Need some help/solution please.

If the unit is "plug and play", Windows should install it, either from drivers it has or from drivers it will find on line (assuming you are on line when you plug it in).

The first issue, however, is Windows even detecting it? Do you get anything in the notice area about installing? If it's being detected but not installing, with the device connected, go to the Device Manager and display the USB and there will probably be an Unknown Device entry listed which is probably the pendrive. RIGHT click on that entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Then unplug the pendrive, restart the PC and after Windows completes its startup, plug the drive in and see if it will now install.
