You have a blocked MSDN Key.
from where did you purchase this?

From Craigslist in Orlando, FL... does that mean it's not a genuine copy, fake? It appeared to be... the packaging looked pretty good... was an unopened box with shrink rap still on it too... o_O

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

NoelDP,

I'm going to have to go to my storage unit and get the software and check it out. I don't think it was a counterfeit but that it actually might be a not-for-resale version. I checked my product ID and the 3 digits are 069, not one that was listed in the other posting but it did say there might be some other numbers.

I purchased this from an individual in Orlando, FL from craigslist.com which is where local people sell things. He didn't work for a store or anything like that. I remember him well since it wasn't too long ago (3 months), he was a disabled (so he claimed) veteran old man. He said he got the software from his son who worked in the IT industry for a company who had this extra copy laying around (unopened) after upgrading to Windows 8. His son gave it to him but he never opened it and installed it because he ended up buying the $40 upgrade offer on Windows 8, upgrading from Vista. So he didn't need it anymore and was selling it. It all sounded legit except for the part of his son taking company software home, now that I think about it.

I'll check out my software packaging and see if it's counterfeit, if it's not I will call the guy since I still have his phone number and the printout of the craigslist ad he posted. I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks again for your help.

Well I made it to the storage unit today and found my box of Windows 7 Ultimate and low and behold, IT'S A FAKE!!! Dammit, that was a pretty damn good fake too!! There was a nice box that was shrink wrapped, had all the wording correctly spelled, ect on the outside. When I opened it up, it had the hard shell plastic case, all the paperwork was in the box included, the product key and two disks x32 and x64 versions. I was even able to install the software properly and activate it without any problems. The only thing wrong with this good fake is that it had stickers on the disks!!

I would have never known this was a FAKE version of the software had I not gotten the notices from Microsoft all the sudden stating that "This copy of Windows is not genuine" and that I might have counterfeit software. Urrgghh!! Damn crooks!

Thanks for your help NoelDP!! I'll notify Microsoft of this counterfeit and let them deal with this guy...

That's what they said when I filled out the counterfeit report, however there were stipulations. So we'll see if that happens or not. It should take 6-8 weeks to find out. Hopefully my counterfeit copy will continue to work until I find out if they're going to send me one or not. What do you think will happen it I try to activate this version on the software? I'm afraid to try it but also worry what will happen if I don't do anything...

It's often 2-3 weeks
Once you get the genuine article, you can swap the new Key in, assuming it's for the same edition (I did hear that they only have Ultimate!) with no need for a reinstall.

The situation is already as bad as it gets (at least by design) - so just sit tight and wait
