Noel, chkdsk came back ok. Scannow came back with a message that said it found corrupt files but was unable to fix all of them and to look in the CBS log file for the report. However I am unable to access the CBS.log. I get an access denied message. I do not know how to fix that. I ran the MGADiagnostic again and it still shows the tampered filed. The latest report is below. Am I stuck going back to the Windows Installation repair option the MS tech desk rep recommended? If so, can I use an ISO version of the program I downloaded from a trial site? Thanks again.

You'll need to copy the CBS.log file to your desktop (or eleswhere) before you can read it fully - or follow the instructions from MS here... How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

Please copy the file and either attach it, or upload it to your favourite fileshare site (or SkyDrive Public folder, if you have one) and post a link.
Then we can see what's actually wrong.

OK -that was actaully fairly small (2.5MB) - I've had to wade through ones of 14MB recently!), so I managed to pull the essential facts quicker than I thought.

The essential problem is that you have a number of points of file corruption
(it's not just the sppext.dll file)
as shown by the following errors in your report....
    Code:
Line 12293: 2012-04-27 09:24:05, Info CSI 000000c3 [SR] Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:40{20}]"\??\C:\Windows\fonts"\[l:22{11}]"serifet.fon"; source file in store is also corrupted

I'm not happy that even if we reinstated the correct files in this install, that it would cover the other potential problems.
I suspect that the minimum requirement is going to be a repair install.
Since you have SP1 installed, and your machine almost certainly came with RTM pre-installed, you'd have to download the appropriate DVD from
    the listing here - Microsoft
and use that - following the instructions in Bink's tutorial here... Repair Install

Noel, I hope you had a good weekend! I wanted to thank you for all your help. I did the repair over the weekend and it seems to have worked. Since I completed the repair late Saturday afternoon (EST), I have not gotten the Genuine Windows warning and the MGA Diagnostic report seems to look clean. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my posting this doesn't jinx me, but so far so good. Here is the diagnostic report. and again, thanks for all your help!

The report shows everything as being in the green - no problems that I can see.
Well done - you obviously managed to navigate the rapids of a reinstall without a problem.

Award yourself at least a couple of drinks :)

As far as I can tell, you're good to go, so good luck, and have fun!

I'm having the same prob all the sudden, why?

I just logged into my computer today and saw the message regarding "This copy of Windows is not genuine". I have activated this about 3 months ago and everything has been fine.

Well I've been following the instructions on this post since we have identical problems and haven't found anything out of the ordinary yet. I am running Avast and have done a through virus scan check, then enabled Windows Defender and scanned using that and then disabled it back and ran the malwarebytes. None of these reported finding anything except avast found a few video files that were achieved and locked which it couldn't scan and some without correct file paths?? Not sure what that was about. I've also just run CHKDSK C: /R as instructed. I didn't get any feedback from that am getting ready to run the next check.

I am attaching a copy of my MGADiag to see if anyone see's anything because I don't know what I'm looking for. I afraid to click on the notice I'm getting to Activate my copy of Windows again, in case this isn't really something that is coming from Microsoft, like a virus or malware. Not sure what would happen if I did but I don't want to have my copy of Windows stop working all the sudden as I need this for school work and such. See below for report....

    Finished the SFC scan

Update: I just finished running the SFC /SCANNOW. The message I received was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" and return me to the C:\Windows\system32> prompt. Not sure what to do next so I hang tight until I hear back from someone with knowledge of my troubles.

    Thank you in advance.
