Just because the test utilities show that Key as being OK, does not mean that the installation is genuine.
All they can do is test certain specifics in the software.

NOW you decide to tell us that this was acquired through your Uni? - after being asked three times?

Yes it's genuine and valid.

libra,
And your university is?

Clarify his activation / validation problems.

With a legit version of Win 7, there will not be a problem.

& why this new key is not showing in My Computer Properties? Why still the old key is there?
What is listed as "Product ID:" in system properties is not your Product Code.

As far as I can tell at present, he has no activation or validation problems

If a PC uses SLP and activates against the SLIC table in the BIOS it does not activate online and will never fail activation. One method used to pirate windows is to flash a PC with a modified BIOS and use SLIC activation to bypass online activation. Microsoft's response to this was the WGA check. If a key is blacklisted WGA will rear its ugly head. Sometimes WGA gets messed up and flags legal PCs as not legal.

I don't know if the OPs PC falls into this category, but if it does, it might be more involved to switch the product code/activation method. If it was pirated I think I would want to do a clean install anyway. You never know what the previous owner did or didn't do.

There are no indications whatever that the license is in any way counterfeit, now that the OP has shown that the source is legit.
The well-known 'Loader' exploits leave obvious tracks - and only work for OEM_SLP Keys
Less common ones also mostly leave obvious traces in an MGADiag report, especially once KB971033 is installed.

In point of fact, the Loaders do not inject into the BIOS, they insert a sublayer into the system which emulates the SLIC table, and fools the system into thinking a vlaid SLIC table is there, and then provides matching code in the system to validate the emulated SLIC.
Simply reformatting the system will completely remove the loader - which would not happen if the BIOS had been modified.
I would agree that any system on which a loader has been used is inherently insecure and compromised, and should be reformatted.

OK, it looks legit, but is the OP still getting naged by WGA?

They shouldn't be - if they are, then the cause is probably a race condition.
