    .NET framework updates

I am reinstalling Windows Vista and I am wondering if I need to install the older versions of .NET framework when Windows Updates offers them. I expect to also see lots of updates to the older version too. Can I just skip them all, and just install the newest .NET framework ( I think the newest is .NET framework 4?).

Not sure what .NET is used for, the only additional software to be installed after the restore will be Office 2003.

    Thanks

Install them, eventually you'll need them, and better have latest versions available.

I would agree it is probably a good idea to have the newest version.

What I am asking about is the need to install the dozen or more version 3.5 updates, security fixes, service pack, and then updates and security fixes to the service pack. And then when that is all done, it offers version 4.0.

I am wondering if Vista itself needs version 3.5 and its service pack, or will 4.0 fill the requirements that Vista has. I don't believe I will be running any other software that needs .NET framework according to the research I've done.

    Thanks

I decided to leave the .NET updates till the end then decide if I wanted to install them.

But I found that Vista SP2 was not being offered, even after a few reboots. So I installed the dozen or so .NET updates that were waiting. Upon reboot it then offered Vista SP2.

Once I installed SP2, it then came up with another 25 or so .NET updates, from version 2.0 through 4. And then a bunch more after that.

Probably close to 50 updates for .NET.

I hadn't thought of that. Where do I get it, and is my OEM product key still good with that?

    Thanks
