This copy of windows is not genuine build 7601 - cure needed

This error message popped up after owning the laptop for over a year. It is definately a genuine version of windows as the laptop was brought new from a well known retailer with a name similar to an indian dish .

The sticker with the key on it is on the bottom of the computer and all the numbers have worn off - excellent

diagnostic report below.

Thanks for your help.

WOn't work, Golden
The 80070005 is an Access Denied, error - and results from enemy action!
This looks to me like one of the incarnations of RemoveWAT.

@Ictheus
download and run the following tool - WatFix
Download WAT Fix.zip
(please be careful and click the link on the page, not the buttons!)
once run, reboot, and post another MGADiag report.

You need to change your product key to the one on the COA sticker (found either beneath the laptop or inside the battery compartment), and then actvate the installation by telephone.

Thanks for your help. The coa is on the bottom of the laptop and all the numbers have worn off. I'm guessing there is no other way to find out what the product key is or should be...

Your problem is that for some reason, the system is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS, which is required to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key with which the computer came installed.
The normal solution is to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker - but you say that you are unable to read the Key there.
In such circumstances, the only things you can do are
1) recreate the Licensing Store - in case it's a minor software problem causing the misread
2) try updating the BIOS to the latest available Vista-compliant one, from the manufacturer's website
3) Contact the manufacturer direct, and see if they can provide assistance to correct the SLIC table
4) a reformat and reinstall using the manufacturer's recovery media
5) purchase a new license for Windows (or a new computer)

Speccy (and any other KeyFinder app) can only find the currently installed Key - which in this case is the failing OEM_SLP Key.
The oly place the COA Key exists (unless it's been installed prior) is on that COA sticker - and inside MS's keys database, where it's not linked to anything personally identifiable, and so cannot be 'retrieved' from there.
