Should I install any of these optional updates?

I have read up on each one but I jus't don't know if I need them. If it isn't broken why fix it, right?

You know what they say about opinions, don't you? Opinions are like a certain body part. Everybody's got one and sometimes they stink. :)

A lot of folks on this Forum recommend installing all updates starting with the critical, then the important, recommended, and finally the optionals. Because in theory the updates are supposed to keep a computer safer, running smoother, etc. But as many people have discovered, even a critical update that doesn't install correctly can cause a lot of grief.

So here's my opinion FWIW. Go ahead and install the updates. But ... (1) make sure you have at least a restore point created before hand, or better yet a system image just in case something goes wrong and you need to roll back your machine; and (2) don't try to install them all at once. Keep track of the KB numbers, install maybe 4 - 5 at a time, and reboot after each group is installed. If a problem should occur you'll know which group caused the issue. Uninstall the entire group then install just one update at a time. Reboot after each individual install. If the problem reappears you'll know exactly which update is the offender. Ignore that update and continue with the rest. Yes, it's a lot slower process but I think it offers the best chance for a successful install.

You may install them if you like. But as marsmimar has suggested create a restore point beforehand. Or better still image your System Volume Drive and then install them.

I think he means he "done made a restore point" and "done installed the updates". It's an American thing.
